About us
Since inception in 1986, Children's Fund has assisted more than 1.5 million children. Children's Fund serves our communities' most vulnerable children by funding and equipping agencies and nonprofits that serve children who are experiencing poverty, abuse, and neglect. We are positioned to leverage donations to help provide essential services and resources to our region's most vulnerable children.
Our mission is giving our vulnerable children Support, Opportunity, and Hope by breaking destructive cycles through community partnerships.
The work we do for children can be categorized into three main pillars.
Support
We support children throughout the year through our Emergency Needs Program, Educational Support Program, and our work with the Children's Assessment Center.
Emergency Needs Program: Last year, over 2,500 children were supported with tangible items such as food, new clothing, personal hygiene products, refrigerators, beds and bedding for a good night's sleep, dental/orthodontic care, and other items to meet a vital and immediate need.
Educational Support Program: Each year, we organize drives for items needed by our children, such as backpacks, school supplies, jackets, and shoes. Supplies like these help set children up for success.
Children's Assessment Center: The CAC offers a child-friendly environment where specially-trained forensic medical providers conduct evidentiary medical examinations and are able to provide expert witness testimony in court as needed for child victims of abuse and neglect.
Opportunity
Last year, 276 foster, former foster, and vulnerable youth between ages 18-25 received a scholarship from Children's Fund, and many more youth benefited from additional Opportunity programs.
Scholarships: Children's Fund awards scholarships at CSU San Bernardino, Cal Poly Pomona, and four San Bernardino County Community Colleges.
Computer Camp: We are equipping foster youth graduating from high school with a new laptop, printer, Microsoft Office software, and a full-day, hands-on training session as part of their computer camp experience. In today's technological environment, students leaving high school need a computer for their college studies, trade school, or the job market. Through our partnership with San Bernardino County's Independent Living Program (ILP), we are answering this need and providing 100 computer camp packages in 2022. We're asking for help from people like you to provide these needed resources to this vulnerable segment of our community.
Life Enrichment: The Independent Living Program provides supports, education, training, mentoring, and positive experiences for system involved youth. Assistance such as this can help break the cycles of poverty and abuse in our communities.
Sports Faire: The Children's Fund Sports Faire is an annual day long program for youth to explore different sports and foster a sense of community around them.
Speakers Bureau: The Speakers Bureau focuses on youth leadership training and development. Leadership skills help build confidence and life-long lessons in relationship building, critical thinking, motivation, and much more.
Hope
Children's Fund's annual Celebration of Giving is a special time of year. Through our amazing donors and partnering organizations, we are able to collect thousands of gifts to give to the most vulnerable youth in our communities and spread holiday cheer across San Bernardino County.
Celebration of Giving: The Celebration of Giving is Children's Fund's annual toy-drive, and our most popular event year after year. Businesses, organizations, charities, and individuals are participate in bringing joy to children during the holiday season. In the past, our donors have gifted over 60,000 toys to children in our community. Look out for news about the Celebration of Giving during the month of November.
Birthday Gifts: Every child deserves to have a happy birthday. Children's Fund looks to make that idea a reality by providing birthday gifts to kids involved with the foster youth system.
Celebrating Life's Milestones: Reunification, adoption, guardianship, graduation, post-secondary education, driver's license, employment, a first apartment, etc. All of these milestones deserve to be recognized and celebrated for the achievements that they are.
